Labor Day Classic and Calkins Recap

Good Afternoon all!

Another double race write-up for the week, as the season is winding to an end. The last two weeks have not been too kind to us, but we've been trying to make the best out of them!

Starting with the Labor Day Classic, we unloaded alright, but on some junk tires we just couldn't find the burner lap speed we needed to run with the big dogs. After the first practice, we put on our new tires to break in for the heats and feature, and wound up picking up almost half a second, ending us 5th on the speed charts. Come heat time, we drew one spot out of the qualifying position, and just couldn't find any drive forward to make it through the heat right into the show. In the consi, we started on the outside pole, and quickly dropped to the inside lane once the hole presented itself, and finished 2nd, bringing us into the 200 lap feature. We started 18th, and tried our best to just make in through unscathed. We did that for the most part until about halfway through the race, when a car got turned in front of us and skinned the whole right ride of the car off. We came in to fix some damage the best we could, and with about 50 to go we had to bring the car in because there was just too much damage to continue. Even pulling off before the end, this put us 18th our of 28 cars when all was said and done!

We had a lot of work to do to get the car ready for the following Friday, where the rescheduled Calkins Portable night occurred. We made a couple small changes for this race due to the shorter distance again, and it was safe to say that the changes we made didn't work. We struggled to get the car to turn all day, starting 2nd in the heat and falling back in a hurry.. We suffered the same fate in the consi, falling back in a hurry from a good starting spot, and wound up missing the qualifying spot, meaning we would be tagged on to the end of the field for the 50 lap feature. We started 17th, and played a lot of follow the leader, as everyone bunched up for the first half of the race until finally some speed was found on the outside of the track and some movement happened. We dug hard to makeup some spots after a couple late race restarts, and wound up finishing 12th out of 19 cars.

Tonight is the final points race of the season, where we hope to end on a high note and bring home some hardware in the extended lap feature. Post time is 7pm, where we hope to see you all for the show!
