Good afternoon all! It's another Thursday race day (the 2nd to last one), and race write-up day!
We wrapped up the first points series of the season last Thursday at Thunder Road, where we came close but not close enough to our desired goal. We unloaded the car a little late, and made a couple trips to the scales, as well as a couple of tire changes all before practice started, and struggled right out of the gate. A few adjustments and an extra practice later, we had the car where we thought we wanted it for the heat race. We were the first races out on the track, and we drew a 21 for our qualifying chip, which put us 6th in the first heat race. For the first time all year, we had a self-inflicted accident after the car got loose and climbed the front stretch wall, ruining a wheel and ending our race early. We hurried to get the car ready for the consi, where we were starting dead last. Unlike the first race of the night however, the car was hooked up this time, and we drove it to the front for a 3rd place qualifying position.
Feature starting position was based on the plus minus from the heat race, regardless of where you finished in the consi, so we had to start 19th out of 26 cars. The race started off with a caution on lap 4, and went green for another 21 laps, where we had no choice but to run the outside to pass cars. We had made it up to around 11th place until an accident involving our car brought out the second yellow flag of the night, putting us at the rear of the field again. From then on there would be one more caution with 2 laps to go, and when all was said and done we battled back to the front of the pack and finished the race in 12th position, falling a few positions short of a top 5 for the Myers Triple Crown series.
Tonight is back to the regular 40 laps of racing, where we're hoping to get the finish we think we deserve. Post time is 7pm. Hope to see you all there!
