VT Tire and Service Night

Good Morning all! Second to last Thursday night write-up is here, and let me say before it starts that it's a rough one with very few words to be said.

We had a good car when we unloaded, but still needed to find some speed. A few small adjustments had us turning the fastest lap in practice before all was said and done.

Due to a lack of good finishes, we finally got our chance to start up front for the heat race. We we're third when the flag flew, and we're second by the time we got into turn 3 because of a 3 wide move down the backstretch. We tried our best to catch up to the leader and grab our first Thunder Road flag of the year, but fell just short of that.

Come feature time, we were slated to start 4th place, but the 3rd place car had blown an engine after winning the heat race, so that gave us the spot. The beginning of the race was hectic, with the first caution coming at lap 5. We were second on the restart, and by the time we came out of turn 2 we had the lead. From that point on the car was an absolute rocket, and we had managed to get a half track lead on the field before the next caution came at lap 27. This bunched us all back up, and a good restart saw us get the jump on the 54 of Colin Cornell and begin to drive back away, until the next caution came 2 laps later. The following restart saw Brandon Lanphear to our outside, but we once again managed to get a good jump on him and could've pulled away had another caution not came out the next lap. One more restart with him was needed, and this time he was pretty even. A door to door race ensued, and the car got progressively tighter and tighter, and when he had finally made the pass around us with 5 to go, the train fell off the tracks (or the wheel fell off the car), and the car slid towards the "Widowmaker", stopping just short of destruction. We brought the car in and changed a wheel and tire, and sent the car back out and scrounged up a 10th place finish out of 25 cars that started.

Tonight is the final Thursday night race of the year, and the team is hoping to show that last weeks race wasn't a fluke, and that we are capable of running up front with the divison's best.

Post time is 7pm, with a regular 40 laps of racing, and the spectator Run-What-U-Brung races. Be sure to come out and support the team for the final weekday/night race of the year at "The Nation's Site of Excitement"
